Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity for an Engineering Manager to take ownership of the mobile platform and backend systems of one of the most established international wellness brands. You will lead the team responsible for a global consumer app used across multiple regions, shaping the technical roadmap and ensuring high standards of engineering quality, reliability and performance.


This Engineering Manager position is based in Cape Town with a hybrid onsite model

This role is paying between R1.8M – R2M

The company is rebuilding its technology stack to support a unified global product strategy, consolidating mobile and backend engagement services into a central engineering function that owns the core consumer app used across multiple regions. This modernisation initiative aims to deliver faster releases, architectural consistency and scalable digital experiences at international scale. The engineering culture is collaborative, quality-focused and onsite-first, ensuring real-time interaction, aligned decision-making and accountability across a high-impact, globally distributed platform.

 

THE ROLE

 

As the Engineering Manager, you will lead the team that designs and develops the organisation’s mobile application and backend integration services. You will manage technical delivery end to end, ensuring the engineering roadmap aligns with product goals while maintaining high standards for code quality, reliability and security.

You will guide architectural decisions, oversee the evolution of the app and its supporting APIs, and ensure that integrations with internal platforms and third-party services are stable, efficient and well-tested. This includes shaping CI/CD processes, improving observability and monitoring, running post-incident reviews, and continually strengthening engineering practices.

 

A key part of this role is leadership. You will coach engineers, provide feedback, run performance management, support career development and contribute to building a healthy, transparent and collaborative engineering culture. You will work closely with product managers, designers and business stakeholders to plan releases, prioritise features and communicate progress across the organisation.

 

THE REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor’s degree in computer science or relevant field, or equivalent experience
Eight years software engineering experience, including three years in engineering management or technical leadership
Strong technical background in mobile development, either native or cross platform
Experience designing and integrating mobile applications with backend services, internal APIs and third-party systems
Proficient in cloud technologies, ideally Azure
Strong understanding of application architecture, system design, scalability and performance optimisation
Experience building or managing RESTful services and mobile-first APIs
Experience leading distributed or outsourced engineering teams
