THIS 6-MONTH CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY IS OFFERING UP TO R400PH (R67K/pm)

Great opportunity for a skilled intermediate SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to own the end-to-end management of SQL Server environments, while introducing automation for deployments, modernization, configuration standardization, or Infrastructure as Code (e.g. using PowerShell or Terraform with Azure SQL).

Headquartered in Johannesburg, they operate in a fully integrated value chain encompassing mining, refining, and marketing activities.

 

THE ROLE

 

This is an excellent opportunity for a SQL Database Administrator to take ownership of the full SQL Server environment across production, development, and testing systems. In this role, you’ll ensure the stability, security, and performance of all database instances, while actively supporting development teams and business stakeholders with expert-level database insight and technical guidance.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

 

SQL Server Deployment & Management: Install, maintain, and upgrade SQL Server instances to ensure reliable, high-performing database environments.

Security Policies Implementation: Develop and enforce robust database security measures to protect sensitive data.

Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions for peak system performance.

Backup & Disaster Recovery: Design, implement, and manage disaster recovery processes, ensuring your strategies safeguard data integrity at all times.

Database Audits: Conduct regular audits to identify vulnerabilities, irregularities, and security risks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with IT and business teams to provide database solutions that support company-wide projects.

End-User Support: Offer technical support and training to database users and developers to ensure smooth operations.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

Proven experience in database administration, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and security.

Proficiency with SQL Server and database management tools.

Strong understanding of database architecture and administration.

Experience with backup and recovery procedures, performance tuning, and security.
