This 100% REMOTE (South Africa) BACKEND SOFTWARE ENGINEER role is paying R720-R960K.

THE ROLE:
As a Backend Software Engineer in the Payment Integrations team, you will build real-time payment integrations behind millions of transactions for one of Africa’s leading digital payments platforms. Your work will connect the platform to banks, wallets, and alternative payment providers, enabling merchants across the continent to offer secure and seamless payment options.
You will be responsible for delivering integration features end to end, from designing and developing cloud-native services in Python and AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, Serverless) to testing and deploying production-ready code. You will collaborate closely with your team to ensure each integration is scalable, secure, and compliant, while actively identifying opportunities to automate and improve the system.
This is a hands-on backend engineering role with a focus on real-time systems, technical problem-solving, and production-grade delivery.
THE REQUIREMENTS:
BSc in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent
5+ years of backend development experience with a strong track record in cloud-based engineering
Extensive experience with Python, including deep experience working with AWS (particularly Lambda, API Gateway, and Serverless architecture)
Solid working experience with databases such as MySQL and MongoDB
Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using logs, monitoring tools, and code analysis
Experience with payments integrations advantageous
